Where does the race take place?

The race takes place in Blessington Sailing Club, Baltyboys, Co. Wicklow (see Google Maps). From Dublin, take the N81 to Blessington and continue through the town, turning left onto the R758. The sailing club is 7km from Blessington and about 40 minutes from south Dublin. From the south (M7/M9) take the exits through Kilcullen and follow the R413 and R411 until you reach the N81. Then continue past Tulfarris and the sailing club is on your right.

Where is the competitor race briefing document?

The competitor briefing will be published by 23rd June.

When is my race start time? What wave am I in? Can I change waves/start time?

Wave start times will be published in the competitor briefing. It’s not possible to change waves or distances after June 18th.

What is the race distance?

The Sprint distance race consists of 750m swim – 20km bike – 4.6km run.
The Aquabike race consists of a 750m swim and 20km bike

What are the entry fees for the Blessington Triathlon this year?

The Sprint and Aquabike are €60 per individual. The relay team is €90.
Entries will be available via the Triathlon Ireland website and close on June 18th.

Is the Blessington Triathlon a Triathlon Ireland sanctioned event?

Yes. In order to compete, all Blessington Triathlon participants must be hold a 2019 Race License from Triathlon Ireland. To become a member you may access Triathlon Ireland online. Alternatively, you can purchase a One Day Membership (ODM) online for €25. You cannot purchase the ODM on race day.

What time will the race start?

Do you have a course map?

Yes, course maps are available in the Course Description page. These are subject to change and are currently, please check back again closer to the race date for up to date course description and maps.

How do I register?

Please go to the Triathlon Ireland Race Entry page to enter. Online registration opens in January closes on Thursday June 18th at 11pm. No entries after this time or on the day are permitted.

When and where can I collect my race pack and number?

There are two options – on Saturday afternoon in Base2Race (1.30pm to 5.30pm) or on Sunday morning at race HQ in Blessington Sailing Club (times tbc), Please note times are TBC and subject to change,

I can no longer race, are refunds or transfers permitted?

Unfortunately we are not in a position to offer refunds but we will accept a transfer to another athlete, another distance in the same race or Belpark organised race. Requests must be submitted 72 hours before the race.

Can I race in a relay team?

Yes, teams of 3 can enter.

Are there any benefits to registering early?

Yes, as if you leave it too late the race may be full.

What is in the registration pack?

You will receive a race number (to be pinned to your trisuit/jersey), a swimming cap, a bike sticker (to go on the bike frame & helmet), a timing chip (to go on your left ankle) The race number must be pinned to your front. If you have a tri belt, please ensure it’s front facing on the run and rear facing on the bike.

Is there a t-shirt or medal for all competitors?

Our Blessington race momento is currently under review.

What are the swim distances?

  • Sprint – 750m

Which equipment is needed for the swim?

Swim cap (provided at registration), goggles or mask (optional), wetsuit (mandatory) and swimsuit or tri suit. Fins, gloves, snorkels & other propulsion devices are not allowed.

What is the distance for the bike course?

  • Sprint – 20km (1 lap)

Are you allowed to use a mountain bike?

Yes. You may use a mountain bike, hybrid/city bike, road bike or triathlon bike. Your bike needs to be roadworthy and will be checked during bike check in at transition.

What equipment is mandatory for the bike section?

A bike with 2 wheels, 2 brakes and a bike helmet are required. Your bike must be in good working condition with your bike race number properly attached. Fixies are not permitted – the bike must have 2 brakes. Disc brakes are permitted. Race numbers are to on the back and timing chips must be securely strapped to your left ankle.
We recommend having your bicycle checked with a bike shop prior to the event. We also advise to bring along all necessary equipment for changing a flat tire or making minor adjustments to your bike.

Will drafting be allowed?

Drafting is not allowed in any of the races. The “Draft Zone” is 10 metres behind the front wheel of the competitor’s bicycle. The front edge of the front bicycle wheel will define the start of the draft zone. A competitor may enter the draft zone but must be seen to be making forward progress. A maximum of 20 seconds will be allowed for a competitor to pass through the draft zone.

What is the distance of the run?

  • Sprint – 4.6k (1 lap) subject to change as route is currently under review.

What mandatory equipment do I need for the run?

Race number and timing chip (will be included in your race pack which you will receive at registration). Race numbers are to be attached on the front of your body and timing chips must be securely strapped to your left ankle.

How many water stops will be on the run?

One per lap located before 2km and after 4km.

What is the transition area?

The transition area is a common area where participants rack their bike, run and swim gear before and during the race. It is also your assigned spot where you will transition from swim to bike and bike to run.

Do I have to wear a wetsuit?

It depends on the water temperature. If it’s below 15.9C wetsuits are compulsory. If it’s above 15.9C and below 22C wetsuits are optional. Above 22C are not permitted.

What time does the transition area open and close in the morning?

This will be announced closer to the event date.

Who is allowed in the transition area?

Only race participants who have picked up their timing chip and have attached their bike race number to their bike, and transition area volunteers and race officials are the only people allowed into the transition area. Please no family members or friends in the transition area.

Are there prizes?

Yes there are prizes for top 3 male & female overall, plus age group and relay prizes. All prizes are Base2Race store vouchers. Full details will be available in the competitor race briefing.

Will there be a bag drop?

There will be a back drop adjacent to transition. No bags in transition.

Where can I park?

Parking is available in a field at Blessington Sailing Club, less than 100m from the start/finish and transition.
